Certification
Bird Friendly Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes are pleased to launch the ‘Building Certification HEROES Program’, providing bird-safe education and implementing mitigation projects to protect birds from window strikes. With generous support from TD Friends of the Environment grant, this program provides complimentary installation of Feather Friendly window decals to eligible businesses and non-profits in the downtown core of Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Starting in February 2024, we will do a callout for businesses/charities/not-for-profit organizations in the downtown core of both communities who would be interested in applying for this project.
1. Interested candidates would begin certification by completing an application form (provided below) for pre-screening.
2. Interested candidates would engage in a suite of short, engaging virtual modules to provide an overview of birds, habitats, and environmental pressures.
3. These modules end with a facilitated project planning session facilitated by the program where a small budget is drawn up detailing the provided in-kind support.
4. Projects will be reviewed and scored by the Bird Friendly Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes Steering Committee, with final approval and installation completed by August 2024.
